我觉得老外他们自己也搞不清这两个词有什么区别，我看到一个摩旅帖上有这么两段：
So with our comms patched up, we head off the highway into the final stretch for the evening. Our stop that we've booked for the night is actually in Erg Chebbi, which is right on the western periphery of the Sahara Desert. This means that the last 15 kms or so is off-road as we negotiate the poorly marked gravel pistes running parallel to the sand dunes that represent the edge of the Sahara.
Our stop that we've booked for the night ... 这里用的是 night，应该是前面用了一次 evening 了，老外好像最不喜欢在一个句子或者段落里重复同一个单词。况且他在这里要用 evening 表示傍晚，有照片为证：
很快后面又有一段：
I have the GPS co-ordinates, but the pistes don't line up and it looks like we're just circling around where our stop for the evening should be.
... our stop for the evening ... 这里又变成了 evening ，在说哪里过夜的时候很多人爱说 stop for the evening，至少这个老外喜欢这样说。
本来我是来找答案的，结果发现这些回答都不大靠谱，特别是那些把时间卡得这么准的人。个人认为在老外眼中 evening 的时间跨度应该包括 night ，在表示“天没黑尽”的时候应该不会用 night ，起码到目前为止我没见过。
一年后发现“天没黑尽”的时候也会用 night ：
You can travel for years and years, turn miles and miles beneath your wheels. You can chase every burning sunset to the ground of a different country each night, lie awake till morning to breathe in the foreign sky of a brand new day.
证明这两个词在老外眼中真没有我们想象中那么泾渭分明。
