other 可以做形容词，表示其他的，比如other people其他的人。
也可以做代词，但是做代词时一般不以原形出现，一般用以"the other"或者以复数形式“others”出现。
others
和some对比使用时, 是“有些”的意思而不是做“其他”讲, 如:Some cleaned the windows, others mopped the floor. 有的擦窗户, 有的擦地板。
the others
是“其余的”意思, 表示在一个范围内的其他全部, 如: This dictionary is better than the others. 这本字典比别[其余]的好。
the other
是其中的“另一个”, 如:Give me the other one; not this one. 给我那一个, 不是这一个。
两个中的“另一个”是“the other”; 不定数目中的“另一个”是“another” , 如:This glass is broken. Get me another. 这个杯子坏了, 给我另拿一个来。(在许多杯子中的一个)

辨析

1.another用于泛指三个以上的不定数目中的“另一个”，后面可接单数名词，也可省略后面的名词，用作代词。如：

I don”t like this coat．Please give me another（one）．我不喜欢这件外套，请再给我拿一件。

I have another three days” holiday．我又有三天假。

2.other可用作形容词，修饰单、复数名词。如：

We study Chinese，maths，English and other lessons．我们学习语文、数学、英语和其他课程。

I have no other place to go．我别无去处。

3.the other表示两者中特指的“另一个”或“另一部分”。如：

Where is the other sock？另一只袜子在哪里？

John is here，but the other children are at school．约翰在这里，其他的孩子都在学校。

4.others表示泛指，意为“其他的人或物”，表示除去一部分以后的另一些，但不是剩下的全体，有列举未能尽的意味。如：

There are a lot of people in the park．Some are walking，some are looking at the flowers，others are boating．公园里有许多人。有的人在散步，有的人在赏花，有的人在划船。

5.the others表示特指，意为“其他的人或物”，它指一定范围内除去一部分以后，剩下的全部的人或物。如：

There are 45 students in our class，25 of us are boys，the others are girls．我们班上有45名学生，其中25个男生，其余的都是女生。

区别：

another和the other的区别：
another表示泛指意义的另一个。
the other表示两者中的另一个。

2) 加s和不加s的区别：
加s，相当于名词，也就是说，后面不能再跟名词。
不加s，相当于形容词，那么，后面应该跟名词。
我们可以把your和yours的区别迁移过来运用。
3) 加the和不加the的区别：
加the，表示指定，是在一定的范围内。
不加the，表示泛指，是没有 一定范围的
