States and Big Cities in the USA
The United States is a very large country. From the east coast to the west coast it is about three thousand and five hundred miles wide. The Atlantic Ocean is on the east coast and the Pacific Ocean is on the west coast.
There are fifty states in the country today. The largest state in population is California, while the largest in area is Alaska. Alaska is the smallest in population and Rhode Island is the smallest in size. The oldest States are the ones along the Atlantic coast: Maine, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, etc. The newest states are Alaska and Hawaii. They are separated from the other forty-eight states. The well-known Pearl Harbor is in Hawaii. Alaska is also the coldest state. California and Florida are the warmest. Seattle is a big city on the Pacific coast. But Los Angeles and San Francisco, also on the Pacific coast, are larger than Seattle. New York is the largest city in the United States. Thousands of people visit New York each year. The most important city in the United States is Washington DC. It is the capital, but it is much smaller than New York.
