翻译要照顾目标语言的习惯。我们一般说句1，不太说句2.
前不加not的例句比比皆是：
He stayed up until 12 o'clock last night. 他昨天晚上熬夜熬到12点。
He worked until 12 o'clock. last night. 　他昨天晚上工作到12点。
until 与till意思相同，一般可以互换。
不过，要注意两点：
1.　until只有一个l, till有两个。
2.　有not时多用until(从构词法来说，until(l)是till前加了否定前缀，意思本不一样。not ... until 本来的意思是：他不到12点不睡觉。所以我猜测，本来两者是有区别的。可能是：till用于肯定句，until用于否定句。现在不分那么多了。
第三点，有人说：until可放句首，till不可以。待考证。
