I moved to japan about a year and a half ago from England. E left a lot of good friends back in Britain and ,as is often the case,I don't keep in touch with them as often as I should. Now I have a phone and a tablet computer, so as well as the joy of being able to work from pretty much anywhere, I can keep in touch with friends...at least friends who use computers! It's so easy to communicate with e_mail messages and Skype that i can't live without them.Unfortunately, however, it's easy to lose touch with people who don't connect this way. My sister.for example, rarely uses a computer. But to my surprise my parents have adopted Skype , so we now talk more than we did back in England. It's amazing how quickly things have changed. I can't remember the last time I wrote a letter. My lack of enthusiasm when it came to letter-writing always used to cause me guilt, as I would put off writing for weeks on end. I really appreciate the ease with which one can push a "send"or "call"button. I wonder how my son will communicate when he grows up. I can imagine pestering him in a few years time as my parents did me to write letters. "Have you Skyped your grandparents yet?"
